Tales of Berseria takes place in the continent of Glenwood during the bygone era of Tales of Zestiria. The Sacred Kingdom of Midgand serves as the focal point of the setting, comprising numerous isles and small groups of islands. The kingdom's size allows it to exhibit varying climatic conditions, such as the north's escalating snowstorms due to the world's chill. The land continues to enhance its shipbuilding abilities, although torrential weather forces seaborne trade to ply through familiar pathways prone to piracy. Three years prior, a pervasive malady dubbed Daemonblight afflicted the territory, infecting people and resulting in the world's descent into pandemonium. Nonetheless, Velvet, the protagonist, lived with her kin in a distant part of the kingdom in relative luxury. One evening, as a crimson moon emerged, her once-savior Artorius betrayed her, resulting in her family's loss and the possession of her left arm by an enigmatic force that consumed demons. After Artorius initiated the Abbey and the Exorcists, the world regained some stability, hailing him as its rescuer. But Velvet remained solely resentful towards him.
